The diamond was donated to the Louvre museum by a Buddhist monk, with his wishes being that if it was not real he wanted it re-cut and sold for an enormous sum of money.
Scientists quickly discovered that this diamond has been cut from a rock crystal and also contains some calcium, which is what gives this diamond its unique green color.

Some speculate that the stone may be from South Africa’s Cullinan mine or from East India or Australia’s Argyle mine. It has also been claimed that the stone could be a fake given its resemblance to other diamonds found locally in South Africa – such as at Kimberley Mine – which has fooled many jewelers over time.
