FIRE HAS A DARK SHADOW

When you see a fire burning, it seems like it has no shadow. But if you see the same fire from a different angle, you will see that it does have a shadow. A shadow is the absence of light. Fire, as a light source, will cast a shadow.

As light travels in a straight line, it’s evident that it will hit one side of the object, not the other. And because the light travels in a straight line, the shadow it leaves behind is also straight and dark. Although it’s the absence of light, it will appear black because the light from the source is the only thing hitting the other side of the object, and there is no light there to reflect.

If you’re standing in front of an open window on a sunny day, you will see a shadow cast by the window and feel a cool breeze blowing in. But is the window genuinely responsible for the shadow and the breeze, or is it the sun responsible for both?

The sun is a source of light, and as the light travels in a straight line, it hits the wall of the house and then bounces off it toward you. This is how the shadow is formed. As the wall is a shade darker than the rest of the house, it will reflect the light toward you.
