WHAT IS A CHICKEN CORN DOG?

A chicken corn dog is a variation of the classic hot dog that uses chicken instead of pork. It is usually served on a stick like a corn dog and usually has a special cornbread coating that is meant to resemble the look of a traditional hot dog bun. A corn dog is a type of hot dog where the meat is encased in a dough made from cornmeal and other ingredients. These are often served at state fairs, baseball parks, and other places where people congregate to eat unhealthy food.

How To Make The Corn Dogs: The Ingredients

For this recipe, you’ll need the following ingredients:

  • 8 boneless, skinless chicken thighs.
  • 4 cups of buttermilk.
  • 4 cups of cornmeal, preferably self-rising.
  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour.
  • 1 tablespoon of baking powder.
  • 1 teaspoon of salt.
  • 1 teaspoon of pepper.
  • 2 eggs.
  • 1 cup of sweet corn kernels.
  • 2 cups of vegetable oil.
  • 8 hot dog buns.
  • 8 wooden skewers.
  • 8 slices of cheese

How To Make It: Step By Step

Prepare the chicken: Place the chicken thighs in a large, non-reactive bowl. Add the buttermilk and make sure that the chicken is submerged. Place a lid on the bowl and chill for at least six hours or better yet, overnight.

Make the batter: Mix the cornmeal, flour, baking powder, salt, pepper, and eggs in a big bowl… Drain the chicken and add it to the batter. Mix until all of the chicken is well-coated.

Deep-fry the chicken: Heat the vegetable oil in a large, deep skillet over medium heat until it reaches 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Carefully drop the chicken pieces into the oil, ensuring not overcrowd the skillet is. Fry the chicken pieces on each side until they’re a deep golden brown, about 8 minutes per side.

Toast the buns: While the chicken is cooking, place the buns cut-side down on a skillet to toast. Add the corn kernels to the skillet along with the butter and let them warm while the chicken and buns are cooking.

Assemble the corn dogs: Remove the buns from the skillet and set aside. Carefully place 1 hot dog bun in each of the hot dog holders. Stick a hot dog skewer through the bun and then through a piece of fried chicken.

Top the corn dogs: Top each corn dog with a few pieces of corn kernels and a slice of cheese and put the top on the hot dog bun. Serve and enjoy!
